ABOUT MOUNTAIN TIGERS SEARCH & RESCUE BACOLOD

A Bit of Background

Mountain Tigers Search and Rescue was founded on 1973 by Maritime Professor Capt. Romeo B. Lacurum who used to be a faculty at John B. Lacson College. This organization was materialized together with some John B. Lacson students, out of school youth, professionals and non-professional individual whose sole desire is the same which is to help the community in times of calamities and emergency. The organization units grew and mushroomed in most of Negros and Panay cities and municipalities. The rescue team had been involved in countless search and rescue operations, clearing operations and first responder actions on emergencies in the entire Negros and in Panay. Mountain Tigers Search and Rescue was a UNITED NATIONS AWARDEE on Disaster Preparedness. This was awarded by United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland on 1998.
Since 2001 most of the units in Panay and Negros became dormant. The only units who remained active as MTR group were units of Canla-on and Sagay for Negros; Molo, Lapaz, East Timawa, Jaro Putotan and Antique.
On October 30, 2017 Mr. Brain dela Torre and Mr. Reynold Diosana, both were old members of the rescue unit in Bacolod decided to revive the sleeping iconic search and rescue group. Mr. dela Torre was instituted by Mountain Tigers Search and Rescue Island Commander Richard Cabios as Bacolod unit commander and the reinstitution of MTR Bacolod unit.  The selection of the new members was based on those who wanted to serve the community as volunteers in the name of public service. The groups training was focused more on rescue.
On January 21, 2018 was the culminating graduation of new MTR members and induction of officers as MTR Bacolod Reborn. The momentous activity was attended together with the unit members from Negros units namely from Canla-on, Sagay, La Carlota and Cauayan. All are in unison to  keep the spirit of comradeship alive through public service without reservation in times of disasters and emergencies.
